The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Lung Health Center (LHC) and UAB/Children's of Alabama Pulmonary Clinic (CAPC) Recruitment Core are located in close proximity to each other (two blocks) and actively collaborate in conducting clinical trials.
The LHC places major emphasis on subject retention and employs 15 full and part time staff with backgrounds in nursing, respiratory therapy and health education. LHC staff are well trained and have extensive experience conducting clinical trials including the performance of research quality pulmonary function testing, specimen collection, recruitment and retention and medical monitoring.
The LHC is located in over 13,500 square feet of space in three campus locations and houses administrative offices, clinical research offices, laboratory space, and pulmonary function testing equipment. The CAPC clinic includes 18 newly remodeled patient rooms available five days per week for pulmonary-related visits. There are also additional research outpatient rooms available in the Children's Hospital Research Unit (CHRU). Spirometry can be performed in either the CAPC clinic or CHRU.
