also commonly referred to as a spacer.

00:00:10;09 -00:00:12;11

Check the dose counter on the inhaler.

00:00:12;18 -00:00:16;23

Do not use it if it says zero. Zero means the inhaler is empty

00:00:16;25 -00:00:18;09

and needs to be replaced.

00:00:19;09 -00:00:22;19

Prime a brand new inhaler before using it for the first time.

00:00:22;30 -00:00:24;29

This prepares the inhaler for use.

00:00:25;23 -00:00:30;27

Prime the inhaler by shaking it for 10 seconds and spraying two or four puffs into

00:00:30;29 -00:00:33;10

the air based on your medicine instructions.

00:00:33;29 -00:00:37;10

Prime again if you have not used this inhaler for 1 to 2

00:00:37;12 -00:00:39;27

weeks or have dropped it.

00:00:39;29 -00:00:42;17

Priming does not waste doses.

00:00:42;19 -00:00:43;09

To take a dose,

00:00:43;12 -00:00:45;16

shake the inhaler to mix the medicine.

00:00:46;12 -00:00:48;21

Take the cap off the inhaler and make sure

00:00:48;23 -00:00:51;13

the mouthpiece and valved holding chamber are

00:00:51;15 -00:00:53;22

clean and there's nothing inside the mouthpieces.

00:00:54;23 -00:00:57;21

Place the inhaler mouthpiece into the open end of the

00:00:57;23 -00:00:59;01

valved holding chamber.

00:00:59;14 -00:01:02;11

Remove the valved holding chamber mouthpiece cap.

00:01:03;21 -00:01:06;18

Prepare your body by sitting or standing up straight.

00:01:06;30 -00:01:10;06Breathe out all the way away from the holding chamber.

00:01:10;27 -00:01:13;22

Hold the inhaler with your pointer finger on the top of

00:01:13;24 -00:01:15;23

the inhaler and thumb on the bottom.

00:01:16;21 -00:01:18;04

Tilt head back slightly.

00:01:18;17 -00:01:20;29

Put the mouthpiece of the holding chamber into

00:01:21;02 -00:01:22;14

your mouth, above your tongue.

00:01:23;02 -00:01:25;08

Close your lips tightly around the mouthpiece.

00:01:26;17 -00:01:29;25

Press down on the top of the inhaler once to release the

00:01:29;27 -00:01:32;21

medicine and begin to breathe in through your mouth.

00:01:33;09 -00:01:35;16

Keep your lips closed around the mouthpiece.

00:01:35;29 -00:01:39;24

Breathe in for 3 to 5 seconds, using one deep and steady

00:01:39;26 -00:01:42;09

breath to pull the medicine into your lungs.

00:01:42;29 -00:01:45;02

If the holding chamber whistles, you are

00:01:45;03 -00:01:46;16

breathing in too fast.

00:01:47;21 -00:01:50;13

Remove the chamber from your mouth and hold your breath for

00:01:50;15 -00:01:51;26

up to 10 seconds.

00:01:55;06 -00:01:57;02

Breathe out slowly through your mouth.

00:01:57;22 -00:01:59;15

Repeat these steps in one minute

00:01:59;17 -00:02:01;05

if using more than one puff.

00:02:02;19 -00:02:04;26

Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out.

00:02:07;02 -00:02:10;03

Replace the cap and store in a cool dry place.

00:02:10;19 -00:02:14;30

Clean your inhaler chamber spacer according to their package instructions.

00:02:15;19 -00:02:18;26

If you have trouble using the inhaler correctly, ask your

00:02:18;28 -00:02:20;15

pharmacist or doctor for help.
