Research Project:
Engineering Bacteria to Produce Targeted Biological Therapeutics

Grant Awarded:

  • COVID-19 Respiratory Virus Research Award

Research Topic:

  • combination therapies experimental therapeutics

Research Disease:

  • COVID-19

We will isolate bacterial species that normally live in the respiratory tract, engineer them to produce targeted biological therapeutics, and reintroduce them into their native environment to colonize the mucosa and deliver virus-blocking biological drugs. This approach will establish an adaptable platform for cost-effective and rapid responses to future respiratory pathogenic threats.
