MUC5B, telomere length and longitudinal quantitative interstitial lung changes: the MESA Lung Study

This study found that CT-imaging abnormalities in patients with interstitial lung disease were linked to a genetic marker called the MUC5B promoter variant. This finding is important because there is currently not much known about the genetic contributors to interstitial lung disease, and this study could eventually lead to a novel treatment target. Senior author Dr. Anna Podolanczuk was funded by the Lung Association Dalsemer grant for her work in interstitial lung disease.
