TET1 and TDG suppress inflammatory response in intestinal tumorigenesis: implications for colorectal tumors with the CpG Island Methylator Phenotype

This study found a new mechanism for responsible for gene instability in colorectal cancer cells. This is important because it reveals how inflammation relates to tumor development, not only in colorectal cancer, but in other types of cancer like lung cancer. Senior author Alfonso Bellacosa, MD, was funded by the Lung Association Lung Cancer Discovery Award for his work in immunotherapy for lung cancer and is a great example of how research funding in one field can benefit another.
