Hospitalization as an opportunity to engage underserved individuals in shared decision-making for lung cancer screening: results from two randomized pilot trials
This study found that engaging in shared decision-making between healthcare workers and inpatient tobacco patients improved the rates of lung cancer screening. This is important to encourage current and former smokers to get screened for early detection of lung cancer, especially among underserved patients. Co-author Haasmeena Kathuria, M.D., was funded by the Lung Association Lung Cancer Discovery Award.
