How Data From Wearable Monitors Predicts Outcomes in TB Patients

Grant Awarded:

  • ALA/ATS/CHEST Foundation Respiratory Health Equity Research Award

Research Topics:

  • epidemiology
  • public health

Research Disease:

  • tuberculosis

Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection that is a leading cause of death around the world. Those who do survive TB often have ongoing health issues despite being cured. We could take better care of TB patients if we had easy and affordable ways to monitor their health during and after their treatment. Digital health tools like fitness wearables could be useful tools to monitor the health of people with TB.

In our study, people with TB will be asked to wear digital health monitors similar to a FitBit during and after their treatment. We will investigate how well the data from these wearable monitors predicts the quality of life, response to TB medication, and major health outcomes of people with TB
