More patients with COPD experience chronic pain compared to those without COPD, which makes it harder to be physically active. Physical activity is important because it can decrease COPD flare-ups and improve quality of life. We will develop a program to help patients with COPD overcome chronic pain, increase physical activity and care for their COPD, leading to improved quality of life. We will modify an existing program designed for patients with diabetes, called Living Healthy, to meet the specific needs of patients with COPD. Living Healthy used therapy to reframe negative pain-related thoughts and encouraged participants to set physical activity goals as a way to decrease pain. We will seek patient input to modify the Living Healthy program, creating a new program called Living Healthy with COPD. We will train patients with COPD (peer coaches) to deliver the program. We will pilot test Living Healthy with COPD among 35 patients with COPD.
