South Florida Skips the Elevator and Takes the Stairs on January 8 for National Take the Stairs Day

American Lung Association recognizes benefits of stair climbing for National Take the Stairs Day; Encourages South Florida residents to step up for lung health by joining Fight For Air Climb Miami

People across South Florida and the country are skipping the elevator and taking the stairs on National Take the Stairs Day on January 8 for clean air and healthy lungs. It’s an opportunity to promote a healthy activity and register for the American Lung Association’s premier stair-climbing event, the Fight For Air Climb Miami, at loanDepot park on Sunday, March 9.

In honor of National Take the Stairs Day, the Lung Association is encouraging everyone to take the stairs for lung health. Taking the stairs is a step toward healthier lungs and a healthier lifestyle. It can improve balance and coordination and help to strengthen major muscle groups. By participating in the Fight For Air Climb Miami, presented by Metro-Dade Firefighters IAFF Local 1403, the South Florida community can turn stair-climbing into a healthy habit while also supporting the more than 3.2 million Floridians living with lung disease, including lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.

“Start 2025 off strong by skipping the elevator on National Take the Stairs Day and begin stair-climbing as a healthy habit this year. It’s a full body workout, and your lungs will thank you!” said Dr. Mark Hauser, immediate past chair of the Lung Association’s South Florida Board. “We’re also inviting our community to take it a step further by joining us for the Fight For Air Climb Miami on March 9. There’s no better feeling than conquering loanDepot park’s 1,700 stairs alongside friends, neighbors and first responders—all while raising critical funding to support people who fight for every breath.”

The Fight For Air Climb supports the work of the Lung Association to defeat lung cancer, champion clean air for all, improve the quality of life for those living with lung disease and their families, and create a tobacco-free future. Join hundreds of participants from across South Florida, including families, friends, firefighters and corporate teams for this fun and exciting event.
