Stair-Climbing to Save Lives: Iconic Fight For Air Climb Returns to Bank of America Tower on March 22

American Lung Association invites North Florida community to make every step count in fight against lung cancer and lung disease

To fund lifesaving research, prevent lung disease and save lives, the American Lung Association in Florida is hosting the 17th annual Jacksonville Fight For Air Climb on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Hundreds of participants, including firefighters and first responders in gear, will scale 37 stories of the Bank of America Tower, the city’s tallest skyscraper.

“For nearly two decades, the North Florida community has climbed to raise awareness and critical funding to support the 3.2 million Floridians who live with lung disease and honor loved ones we have lost,” said Jeremy LaTraverse, Jacksonville Fight For Air Climb event chair and Frozen Category manager at Southeastern Grocers. “We invite everyone to join us on the stairs and step up for healthy lungs and clean air. When you can’t breathe, nothing else matters”

LaTraverse also serves as a Firefighter/EMT for Kingsland Fire Rescue and, like many firefighters participating in the event, climbs in gear weighing nearly 50 pounds. The mission of the American Lung Association hits close to home with firefighters, who are at a higher risk of developing lung disease from exposure to gases, chemicals and smoke in the line of duty.

The Jacksonville Climb is designed for every type of participant, from beginners to seasoned climbers. Participants determine their pace. With 734 stairs, 37 stories and incredible views from the top, the Bank of America Tower is the perfect setting for a day of fun, challenge and camaraderie.

Joining the Jacksonville Fight For Air Climb supports the work of the Lung Association to end lung cancer, improve the air we breathe, reduce the burden of lung disease on individuals and their families and create a tobacco-free future. In addition to supporting lung health, stair climbing has significant health benefits. It improves balance and coordination and strengthens major muscles. Daily stair-climbing may help lower mortality risk.

Registration for the Fight For Air Climb Jacksonville is now open for individuals and teams, which can include friends, families, companies and organizations. For more information, visit ClimbJax.org.
