Cleveland Fire Department Receives Prestigious Honor for Support of Public Health

The Cleveland Division of Fire will receive a prestigious honor ahead of their participation in the 2023 Fight For Air Climb for the American Lung Association in Ohio.

The Department is being recognized as the top fundraising firefighting team of the event for passing the $5,000 mark to help combat respiratory diseases and other health issues for firefighters and emergency responders.

The team will be inducted into the Lung Association’s esteemed Summit Club, and they will be presented with a certificate of thanks for their achievement.

The Cleveland Division of Fire has participated in the Fight For Air Climb since it began 13 years ago, and has raised over $36,000.

“We’re so proud of and excited for the Cleveland Division of Fire for joining the Summit Club. They are the embodiment of serving the community everyday through their responsibilities and philanthropy. They’re not only out there saving lives every day, but they also train and fundraise for events like the Fight For Air Climb in their free time,” said Kim Covey, Executive Director of the Lung Association in Ohio.
“We invite other firefighters and first responders in the Cleveland area and across Ohio to join them in our Fight For Air Climb to help support our work to end lung disease.”

Last year the team was featured as “Mr.’s November” in the Lung Association’s 2023 Calendar, plus it was crowned Fastest Firefighter Team after winning the Firefighter Challenge as part of the Climb.
Over the years, more than 100 firefighters from the Cleveland Division of Fire have participated in the climb, and they will take on the challenge again in the event.

The Fight For Air Climb kicks off on Sunday, April 30th with teams and participants climbing Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Guardians, for a total of 1,190 steps. Registration is still open: $35 for Stadium Climbers and $50 for Ultimate Climbers (participants get to climb the stadium as many times as possible for one hour).
