Stair-Climbing to Save Lives: Iconic Fight For Air Climb Returns to The VUE on March 29

American Lung Association invites community to make every step count in fight against lung cancer and lung disease

To fund lifesaving research, prevent lung disease and save lives, the American Lung Association in North Carolina is hosting the Fight For Air Climb Charlotte, presented by Raymond James, on Saturday, March 29. Participants across the Charlotte area will scale 51 stories to the top of The VUE, the tallest residential building in the Carolinas.

“For more than a decade, our community has stepped up to raise awareness and critical funding to support the nearly 1.7 million North Carolinians who live with lung disease and fight for every breath,” said Dr. John Doty, vice chair of the Lung Association’s North Carolina Local Leadership Board and medical director of Incidental Lung Nodule and Lung Screening Programs at Atrium Health. “We invite everyone to join us and make every step count! Together, we can achieve a future free of lung disease and lung cancer. Because when you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.”

This year marks the 12th anniversary of the Fight for Air Climb Charlotte, the premier stair-climbing event in Charlotte. The climb is designed for every type of participant, from beginners to competitive climbers to first responders in gear. Participants determine their pace. The 51 flights of the VUE makes it a perfect setting for fun, challenge and purpose.

Joining the Fight For Air Climb Charlotte supports the work of the Lung Association to end lung cancer, improve the air we breathe, reduce the burden of lung disease on individuals and their families and create a tobacco-free future. In addition to supporting lung health, stair climbing has significant health benefits. It improves balance and coordination and strengthens major muscles. Daily stair climbing may help lower mortality risk.

Registration for the Fight For Air Climb Charlotte is open to individuals and teams, which can include friends, families, companies and organizations. For more information, visit ClimbCharlotte.org.
