On Sunday, February 23rd starting at 10 a.m., the American Lung Association in California will host their annual Fight For Air Climb at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This year, the popular event turns its focus to healing the Los Angeles Community, thanking our brave Fire and Law Enforcement Officers and continuing the fight for clean air throughout California.
The Fight For Air Climb is the Lung Association’s premier stair-climbing event to raise money for our mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. This year’s event includes a special Community Festival featuring resources on protecting lungs during and after wildfires, rebuilding, and advice from medical professionals on how to protect your family before, during and after disasters. The festival also welcomes experts from UCLA Health, Cedars Sinai, USC Keck, LA County Department of Mental and Public Health, South Coast Air Quality Management District, FEMA representatives and more. Actor, philanthropist and Lung Association Nationwide Ambassador Shantel VanSanten will deliver a very special welcome message and be on hand to meet Climbers and to show support for all Angelenos during this difficult period.
Registered participants will have the choice to climb routes of 1,700, 3,400, or 6,800 stairs at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum along with a flat-surface walking route. The event is designed for every type of climber, from beginners to competitive climbers – and walkers!
“Each year, it is truly inspiring to see hundreds of Angelenos step up to help raise awareness and funds for family, friends and neighbors facing lung disease,” said Allison Hickey, Division Executive Vice President of the American Lung Association. “This year’s event at the iconic LA Memorial Coliseum will be in honor of the tens of thousands of Angelenos whose families and homes have been devasted by wildfires, and who now face the daunting task of returning, rebuilding and simply breathing in areas of poor air quality across our region.”
Joining the Fight For Air Climb supports the work of the Lung Association to end lung cancer, champion clean air, reduce the burden of lung disease on individuals and their families, and create a tobacco-free future. In addition to supporting lung health, stair climbing has significant health benefits. It improves balance and coordination, strengthens major muscles, including your glutes; and consistent stair climbing as a daily activity helps lower mortality risk.
