Almost 5 years ago, I lost the most amazing person in my life. My best friend, my inspiration, and a true hero. On April 14, 2011, I lost my dad to lung cancer. As a non-smoker, his stage 4 diagnosis shocked us all. What was first thought to be pneumonia turned out to be a demon much bigger and more brutal than we ever could have expected. Early detection is so crucial and more resources need to be available so no other family has to see their loved one go through what my father did. His upbeat personality, huge heart, and corny "dad jokes" are missed by us all every day, and will never be forgotten.
