I was diagnosed June 11, 2013 with stage four lung cancer. At the time I was (seemingly healthy) music teacher, wife and mother of two young children. I have the ALK mutation and after traditional chemotherapy and Xalkori, I developed brain mets. I am currently on a clinical trial, AP26113, AKA Brigatinib. I have been fortunate to have been on this trial for one year. The side effects have been minimal, and I feel fortunate to be able to go back to teaching part time, coaching basketball and keeping up with my kids! Throughout my journey, I have had an amazing supportive family and my friends have been great. My biggest piece of advice is you have to do your research and be your own advocate!
