Lynda B., GA

I was diagnosed with stage lllB adenocarcinoma lung cancer on October 3, 2011. My local pulmonologist told me radiation could not be done, only chemo, and that I had 2 to 5 years. I went to Mayo in Rochester, MN for a second opinion. Their team effort determined I could have radiation and chemo.

My first treatment was the later part of October, 2011. It was a very tough fight but I was cancer free in March of 2012. It returned in September of 2013. I had several more rounds of chemo and was cancer free again in May of 2014. I continued to be cancer free until May of 2017. I was treated with immunotherapy for 14 months and in July of 2018 had a side effect that resulted in fluid collecting in the lining of my left lung. They stopped the immunotherapy and drained the fluid. My cancer is stable. Tumors are there but not growing at this time. My oncologist at Mayo Clinic thinks the immunotherapy continues to work long after it is stopped. My husband has alzheimer's and I am his full-time caregiver. We just got back from a 10 day camping trip and both loved it. Faith, Hope and Science has kept me going and I will not give up the fight!!
