My name is Esther and I am a FOUR time cancer survivor. I’m grateful to God for allowing me to share my story today. In 2006 I was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer and underwent chemotherapy and radiation. Not even two years later my doctors found I had stage I colon cancer. I was thankful it was caught early on, and all I needed was surgery. During a check up from my cancer doctor in December 2020, a PET scan revealed a small node on my right lung. Instead of waiting and monitoring me for a few months, my doctor sent me for a biopsy within the next month – it was stage I lung cancer. Early detection saved my life. On April 26, 2021 I went in for surgery to remove the upper right quadrant of my lung and after a few months of therapy I slowly began to recover. My family, friends and especially church family helped me push through with prayer and their support. After defeating lung cancer, I started volunteering to give back and learn more of the importance of our lung health. Now, I get to share my story with others and advocate for continued lung cancer research and affordable healthcare.
