My beautiful Mama's life was cut far too short due to a horribly misunderstood disease - lung cancer. Most people don't realize that you don't have to be a smoker to be diagnosed with lung cancer, you just have to have lungs. My Mama was never a smoker and was in seemingly perfect health when she went to the doctor for a nagging cough and was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. While she did manage to beat the odds against her initial diagnosis' timeline, she did ultimately pass due to this terrible disease just two years later, at the young age of 50.
My Mama fought this disease with everything she had, just as my sisters and I continue to fight for awareness of lung cancer, especially in non-smokers. Our hope is with more awareness, compassion, and research we can combat this horrible disease together.
