Chanel C., MD

In the past two years, I've lost two members of my extended family due to COPD and lung cancer. Both members smoked. Although my stepdad quit in midlife, he was diagnosed with COPD and died in June 2020. Two years and four months later on Oct. 3, his daughter and my stepsister passed after a battle with lung cancer. Kathy was only 63. Too young to go.

My adoptive mother smokes. She is 74 and still alive. How...I don't know. Smoking is a choice but a terrible one. I like to find a way or advocate to curb or stop smoking and make it a cleaner, more breathable community for all of us.
