Dr. Feemster is an associate professor of medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and a Core Investigator at the HSR&D Center of Innovation for Veteran-Centered and Value-Driven Care at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System. Dr. Feemster received her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas, and completed internal medicine residency training and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Washington. She earned a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology from the University of Washington School of Public Health, and received formal training in implementation science from the NIH/VA Training Institute for Dissemination & Implementation Research in Health.

Dr. Feemster’s research focuses on assessing quality of care and improving care delivery for patients with chronic obstructive lung disease, including both implementation of evidence-based practices and de-implementation of low-value therapies that are ineffective and potentially harmful. She also serves as the Co-PI of the ALA Pacific Northwest Airways Clinical Research Center and as the Site-PI for two NIH-funded multi-center randomized clinical trials focusing on improving outcomes among patients with COPD. She has additional expertise conducting observational and mixed-methods studies, including quantitative analysis of administrative databases and qualitative analyses.  She has received research funding for her work from the VA, NIH, and American Lung Association, and has published more than 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Dr. Feemster has served on several national committees for the American Thoracic Society. She has served on grant review committees for the NIH, and is the incoming Chair for the ALA Public Policy and Population Health Review Committee. She is a member of the National Committee for Quality Assurance Respiratory Measures Advisory Panel and of the VA Pulmonary Field Advisory Committee. She is also an Associate Editor for the Annals of the American Thoracic Society.
