Dr. Sean Muldoon has been affiliated with Kindred since 1994. He currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Kindred Healthcare’s Hospital Division and their 75 long term acute care hospitals. As a member of the Division Executive Committee, he is involved with government programs, clinical care oversight, and medical staff affairs, and also leads Kindred’s strategic plan in the area of clinical programs. He was past Chair of the clinical committee of the Acute Long- Term Hospital Association. He is an advisor and representative for Post Acute Care patients and providers at CMS, MedPAC, the AHA, the National Quality Forum and other advisory bodies.
He served as the division’s Chief Clinical Officer, directing the Clinical Operations Department from January 2002 to January 2004 and Vice President and Chief Medical Officer from December 1999 to January 2002. From 1994 through 1999, while in the private practice of pulmonary and critical care medicine, he was the Medical Director and Chief of Staff of Kindred Hospital--North Florida. During this time, he also held medical director positions with an Independent Practice Association, a community hospital and an occupational medicine clinic.
Dr. Muldoon graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine where he received a combined MD-MPH degree with an emphasis in Health Resources Management. Dr. Muldoon received formal training and board certification in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Occupational and Preventive Medicine. He also holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Northwestern University and worked in the chemical industry prior to pursuing medicine.
