Cheryl Smoot is the Assistant Vice President for Individual & Planned Giving and leads the nationwide planned giving program for the Lung Association. With more than 35 years of experience working in the not-for-profit sector as a fundraiser, she has also held positions at The Ohio State University and the American Cancer Society, among other organizations.
Smoot is a member of Equal UA, a group that works to champion diversity, equity and inclusion in the community where she lives. She has served on the boards of the central Ohio chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Carpe Diem String Quartet. Smoot holds a B.M.E. from Illinois Wesleyan University, an M.A. in Music History from The Ohio State University, and has completed all coursework and general exams for a Ph.D. at OSU.
She and her husband, composer Richard Jordan Smoot, have one son who is happily grown and flown. They reside in Upper Arlington, Ohio with their Australian Shepherd, Isabelle.
