Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council

Since February 2024, Lexi Popovici serves as Senior Manager of Nationwide Policy, Clean Outdoor Air in the Advocacy and Public Policy department at the American Lung Association. Responsible for clean air and climate issues involving air pollutants, her work is structured around leveraging new data sources for air quality and policy development, creating and disseminating reports and materials that address health disparities and environmental justice gaps in air quality and assisting in our annual State of the Air report. Since joining the Lung Association in 2016, she has held two roles in the Health Promotions department, including Specialist and then Manager, where she led a two-county New York State Bureau of Tobacco Control grant in Rochester, NY. In this role she provided leadership while managing engagement and advocacy campaigns that paralleled the utilization of evidence-based strategies to address communities disproportionately affected by the harms of tobacco and nicotine. In her former role, she led her team toward the implementation of New York State’s first E-Cigarette Disposal Waste Program in Monroe County, one of the first of its kind in the entire country. She graduated Cum Laude with Distinction in Research with her B.S. in Development Sociology at Cornell University and then completed her M.P.A. in Environmental Policy from the Cornell University Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy. Her other interests include social justice, governance strategies, biogeography, emergency management and disaster relief. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as cooking, drawing, traveling, running, snowboarding, mountain biking and solo hiking and traversing.
