Utah Jazz’s Jason Preston and Fiancée Micaylah Nash Opt to Support American Lung Association in Lieu of Wedding Gifts

Utah Jazz player Jason Preston and his fiancée, Micaylah Nash, have announced that they are asking for donations to the American Lung Association in lieu of traditional wedding gifts. This special request is made in honor of Preston’s mother, Judith Sewell, who passed away from lung cancer when he was just 16 years old. The couple will celebrate their wedding in Jamaica later this summer, his mother’s birthplace, adding another layer of significance to their request.

"Honoring my mother and raising awareness about lung cancer, the dangers of second-hand smoke, and its prevention are extremely important to me. We are grateful for the support and proud to partner with the American Lung Association to contribute to a meaningful cause," said Preston.

"We wanted our wedding to be more than just a celebration of our love; we want it to also serve as a tribute to Jason's mother and make a positive impact. This initiative allows us to honor her memory and help others affected by lung disease," said Nash.

Harold Wimmer, President and CEO of the American Lung Association, expressed his appreciation for the couple's generous initiative. "We are deeply honored by Jason and Micaylah's decision to support the American Lung Association in such a personal and impactful way. Their generosity will help us continue our vital work to improve lung health and end all lung diseases, including lung cancer. We extend our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to them both."

Preston, who joined the Utah Jazz in January of 2024, has not only made a name for himself on the court but also off it through his charitable work. As a member of the American Lung Association’s Ambassador Council, Preston is deeply involved in advocating for lung health and supporting initiatives to end lung cancer.

Donations made in honor of Preston’s mother will support the American Lung Association’s mission to improve lung health and prevent lung disease through research, education, and advocacy. The organization plays a crucial role in funding groundbreaking research, providing critical support services, and advocating for stronger public health policies.
